Description
Cavernularia obesa is a species of marine cnidaria in the family Veretillidae.
Like all sea pens, it is a colony of tiny polyp animals, most of which are feeders with eight tentacles. At the start of the colony, one polyp morphs into the central column on which all the others live.
It is a bioluminescent organism whose light-emitter is composed of 2-(p-hydroxyphenylacetamido)-3-benzyl-5-(p-hydroxyphenyl)pyrazine.
Cavernularia obesa is widespread throughout the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific area.
