Pteragogus is a genus of wrasses native to the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean.

Description

Back flank and nape brown-red; ventral brown orange. Anal and ventral fin light with brown margin. Black blotch on opercle slightly lower than eye. Orange eye with dark pupil.

Distribution

Western Central Pacific: Indonesia, Philippines, Solomon Islands, New Guinea and Palau.

Habitat

Similar to others of this kind. Need lots of algae and hiding places, then you feel good. Found among algae patches of coral or rocky reefs. Also found in weedy bottoms. Cryptic and with excellent camouflage, making it difficult to detect. Males territorial. Edible but not tasty.
