Asthenosoma ijimai is a species of sea urchin of the family Echinothuriidae. Their armour is covered with spines. It is placed in the genus Asthenosoma and lives in the sea. Asthenosoma ijimai was first scientifically described in 1897 by Yoshiwara.

Range: Indo-Pacific Ocean: Japan.

Size: 15 inches (38 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabits shallow reef areas and found in caves and crevices during the day and feeds at night.

Has venom-tipped spines that can inflict extreme pain.

Triggerfish and large wrasses will eat these urchins.
