Heteropenaeus longimanus is a species of shrimp belonging to the family Penaeidae.

Description

It is characterized by a body of semi-transparent greyish color marbled with dark blue or brownish or black, with long legs depending on the color of the body. The head has large, stalked eyes surrounded by a cream ring with dark spots. The rostrum is long, thorny, directed upwards. The antennae are thin, long and striped blue and gray. The tail is formed of a suchon and a pair of uropods, shaped like a fairly long paddle. Gambas of low economic importance. Size 4 - 8,5 cm, depth 4 - 17 m. The male is smaller than the female.

Distribution & habitat

The longarm prawn is widespread throughout the tropical waters of the central Indo-Pacific region, from Indonesia to Philippines and from south Japan to New-Caledonia. It is found on seagrass beds. It feeds on algae and organic debris.
