Oxymeris maculata is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Terebridae, the auger snails.
Other name: Crenulate Auger.

Description

Recognizable by the shell in the form of a curled turret, on a light background, dark rectangular spots along the spiral line of curls. It grows to 15 cm (usually 9-12 cm).

Distribution

This species occurs in the Red Sea and in the Indian Ocean off Aldabra, Chagos, Madagascar, the Mascarene Basin, Mauritius and Tanzania; in the Pacific Ocean off Mexico.

Habitat

It feeds on sea worms. Inhabitant of sandy soil. Depth ranges from 2 to 210 meters.
