Pseudanthias evansi is a salt water fish. It is a tropical fish found in the Indian Ocean. It is sometimes used as an aquarium fish.

Description

It has a bright purple red body with yellow back and caudal fin. They are hermaphroditic. The most dominant fish will automatically turn into the male when there is no other male around.

Distribution

Indian Ocean: East Africa to the Cocos-Keeling and Christmas islands, north to the Andaman Sea.

Habitat

It occurs in large groups on outer reef slopes. Schooling species along upper parts of drop-offs and in outer reef lagoons. It feeds at various depths to near surface in pursuit of zooplankton.
