Pseudochromis perspicillatus is a species of fish in the family Pseudochromidae, the dottybacks.

Description

Characterized by white to slightly yellowish color with dark grey snout, forehead and upper back (common variety), black stripe from snout tip to end of dorsal fin base. Komodo Island variety is overall yellowish to brown color with similar markings. Anterior lateral line scales 28-35; predorsal scales 21-27; depth of body 29.6-35.2 % of SL. Dorsal spines (total): 3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 24-26; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 13 - 14.

Distribution

Western Pacific Ocean: China and Japan south to Indonesia.

Habitat

Occurs on silty coastal habitat with remote coral heads to soft bottom at shallow depths to about 25 m. Also found on coral or rocky patches.
