Gnathophyllum americanum is a species of shrimp that is common throughout tropical lagoons, bays, and reefs.

Description

Similar in coloration to a brightly coloured bumblebee, with bluish white highlights. It can grow up to 1 inch (25 mm) in length.

Distribution

Indo-Pacific, Western Atlantic and the Arctic. Subtropical to polar.

Habitat

Found on rocky bottoms, seagrass beds and coral reefs in subtidal areas. Forms facultative associations with sea anemones.
