Pomacentrus pavo is a damselfish from the Indo-Pacific. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. It grows to a size of 8.5 cm in length.
Other names: Sapphire Damsel, Blue Damsel, Azure Damsel, Peacock Damsel-fish, Sapphire Damselfish or Sapphire Demoiselle.
Description
Adults have bluish green body and fins. Juveniles have a yellow anal fin and tail. Dorsal spines (total): 13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-14; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 12 - 14.
Distribution
Indo-Pacific: East Africa to the Tuamoto Islands, north to Taiwan, south to Lord Howe Island.
Habitat
Adults inhabit sandy areas of lagoon reefs, around isolated patch reefs, coral heads, or rubble. Usually in groups. Commonly found around jetty structures. Feed on zooplankton and filamentous algae. Diurnal species.
