Amblypomacentrus breviceps is a species of marine fish in the family Pomacentridae, the damselfishes and the clownfishes.
Other names: Black-banded Demoiselle.

Description

It's a small size fish that can reach a maximum size of 8,5 cm length. It has a silvery white body with a broad dark brown bar through the eye, two broad bars of saddles on the back, a dark margin on the dorsal fin, rows of bluish white spots on sides, and yellowish lower sides. Juveniles have yellow pelvic and anal fins.

Distribution

Western Central Pacific: East Indies, Philippines, New Guinea, New Britain, Solomon Islands, and Egum Atoll (Solomon Sea).

Habitat

Adults inhabit lagoon and coastal areas. Found in sandy or silty areas around outcrops of rubble on sand, mud, sponge or rocks. Occur singly or in small groups. Young often with anemones for protection. Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding. Abandoned shells and waste bottles serve as nests. Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate. Males guard and aerate the eggs.
