Centropyge multispinis is a marine angelfish of the family Pomacanthidae found in tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific area. It has some importance in the aquarium trade.

Other names: Bluefin Dwarf, Brown Pygmy Angelfish, Dusky Angelfish, Dusky Cherub, Many-spined Angelfish and Multispined Angelfish. 

Description

Adults grow to a size of 14 cm in length. Body is brownish with a slight bluish tint. On the sides there are transverse thin intermittent stripes. Immediately behind the eyes there are dark, almost black, spots with a lilac edging. The pelvic fins (first rays) and part of the anal fin are bright blue. Young fish have the same coloration as their parents. Sex differences are not pronounced.

Distribution

Indo-West Pacific: East Africa to western Thailand.

Habitat

It inhabits shallow coral rich and rubble areas of lagoons and seaward reefs at depths of 3 to 100 feet (1 – 30 m) and is the most common dwarf angelfish species in the Indian Ocean. Diet consists mainly of algae and detritus.
