Ecsenius bimaculatus is a species of marine fish in the family Blenniidae. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade.

Other names: Two Spot Bimaculatus Blenny.

Description

It grows to a size of 5 cm in length. It is very similar to Ecsenius cf bandanus, but readily identified by the double black spots on the abdominal region. It has a yellow/brown upper body and pale white lower body. A few thin white stripes through the eye and 2 oval black spots on the upper belly. Bright white, mid-lateral stripe from the head to the middle of the body, that fades towards the back.

Distribution

The twinspot coralblenny is widespread throughout the tropical waters of the western Pacific Ocean and particularly in the Philippines and the northeast of Borneo which is the Malaysian province of Sabah.

Habitat

Adults occur on reef crests and slopes with rich coral growth to a depth of about 15 m. Often solitary and around sponges and tunicates. Oviparous. Eggs are demersal and adhesive, and are attached to the substrate via a filamentous, adhesive pad or pedestal. Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters.
