Ecsenius namiyei is a species of marine fish in the family Blenniidae. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade.
Other names: Black Comb-tooth.

Description

It grows to a size of 11 cm in length. It has a dark brown to bluish grey body, a pale greyish to yellow tail, and with or without pale lines and spots on the head and body.

Distribution

The Black comb-tooth is widespread throughout the tropical waters of the western Pacific Ocean from the Philippines to Solomon Islands.

Habitat

Found in various coral reef habitats from estuaries to outer reef lagoons to about 20 m depth, but usually more common on shallow reef flat at the 6 m mark. Cryptic usually on corals and sponges of isolated outcrops. Oviparous. Eggs are demersal and adhesive, and are attached to the substrate via a filamentous, adhesive pad or pedestal. Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters.
